WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Winter is here. There’s no getting around it. Don’t let the rain and cold temperatures get you down though because there are still plenty of opportunities for fun this weekend in Whatcom County. From live music to line dancing to local art and even hiking, there’s something for everyone in this week’s Lifestyle Lookout.
Friday night is Country Night at Bar Two Eleven in downtown Bellingham. The evening starts with line dancing at 7:30 p.m. followed by a 9 p.m. DJ set by DJ MP. They will play all of your favorite country tunes while you “grab the bull by the horns” and attempt to ride your way to glory.
You don’t have to ride the bull if you don’t want to. Just head on down, do some dancing, grab a drink or two, and watch the mayhem unfold.

If you are not too sore from Friday night’s shenanigans, head up to Blaine for this year’s January Art Walk. Start at the Blaine Art Gallery at 922 Peace Portal Drive where they will serve coffee, hot cocoa and cookies. Then continue to Blind Bird Art Studio at 264 H Street to take in the works of Shawna Morris. She will be in house painting live.
While you are in Blaine, you can indulge in some delicious grub at Aloha Café, Drayton Harbor Oyster Company or any of the other fine establishments in town. Local art will also be on display at those businesses.
The January Art Walk runs from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11. Go to the Blaine Arts Council’s website for all the details.
The weather on Sunday should be pleasant and chilly. Perfect conditions for a hike in the foothills of western Whatcom County. Join the Sierra Club of Washington State for a guided hike at Chanterelle Trail.
This five-mile round trip hike will take you up through cathedral trees to an overlook with spectacular views of Lake Whatcom and Bellingham. Along the way, you will learn about native plants, fungi, birds and other Pacific Northwest wildlife.
It is an uphill trek with around 1,000 feet of elevation gain, so be prepared for a bit of workout. Layers are a good idea so you can adjust accordingly. You are also welcome to bring your furry friend along. Dogs are allowed on the trail.
The Chanterelle Trail Hike is free, but you have to register on the Sierra Club’s website.
Our featured live show this week takes us to Greene’s Corner on James Street in Bellingham. Lindsay Street will perform from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Lindsay Street band plays Irish, English, French Canadian and original music in Celtic stylings.
