WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The first weekend of October is here and with it comes a plethora of events across Whatcom County from model trains to documentaries to a celebration of Pacific Northwest seafood. So, find your seats, grab your bib and silence your cellphones.
The Pickford Film Center in the arts district of downtown Bellingham is kicking off Doctober this weekend. Every year, the Pickford spends the entire month celebrating documentary films from around the world. The line-up this weekend looks exceptional.
Linda Perry: Let it Die Here is a film documenting the journey of the former lead singer of 4 Non Blondes who has since written hits for Adele, Alicia Keyes, Dolly Parton and more. No Other Land, a film made by a Palestinian-Israeli collective, documents the destruction of Masafer Yatta in the West Bank and the friendship between a Palestinian activist and an Israeli journalist. First We Bombed New Mexico looks at the impact on Indigenous and Hispanic communities in the years after the U.S. tested the first atomic bomb in New Mexico.

After you work up an appetite watching documentaries, why not head on down to Bellingham’s waterfront for some seafood? Bellingham SeaFeast will be this Saturday, Oct. 5 and Sunday, Oct. 6 at Squalicum Harbor and Zuanich Point. KGMI interviewed the man behind the festival, Kevin Coleman, to find out more information about this year’s event.
SeaFeast will highlight all the seafood harvested from the Salish Sea, Puget Sound and beyond. There will be food vendors, a beer and cider garden, a dockside seafood market and the Lummi Nation’s traditional BBQ Salmon feast. It’s not just about food though. You’ll find live music, arts vendors, educational booths and a pinball tournament there as well.
SeaFeast runs Saturday from 10 a.m. for 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For all the details go to bellinghamseafeast.org.
Are you or someone you know a fan of model trains? The Lynden Lions Club 39th Annual Model Train and Toy Show is also this weekend. Head up to the Henry Jansen AG Building at the NWW Fairgrounds to check out a bunch of model trains, toy layouts, exhibits and vendors.
The Model Train and Toy Show is free for kids under 6, just $5 for kids 6 to 12, and $8 for adults. It runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Go to lyndentrainshow.com for all the details.

Ben von Wildenhaus, former guitarist of Bellingham’s iconic garage rock revivalists Federation X, will perform songs off his newest album Everything In Flower along with vocalist Billie Bloom. Opening for Von Wildenhaus is Painted Pills and The Phonebooks.
