LYNDEN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Lynden Public Schools have been dealt another blow following yesterday’s special election.

Unofficial election results posted by the Whatcom County Auditor’s Office report nearly 60% of voters chose not to support the sole measure on the ballot. That was a capital levy that was meant to help fund public school upgrades.

The measure needed a simple majority to pass.

If it was approved, it would’ve increased property taxes by $1.09 per thousand dollars of assessed value.

KGMI previously reported that three previous bond measures for the Lynden School District have all failed in recent years.

Current tallies show about 33% of eligible voters cast their ballot in this special election.
