SKAGIT COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Historic flood levels are receding in Skagit County.

The Skagit River near Mount Vernon is still well above the major flood stage but is forecast to be on the decline after cresting at a record height early on Friday morning.

It’s not expected to fall below flood stage until tomorrow Saturday evening.

The river near Concrete has fallen to the minor flood stage after cresting on Thursday morning. It’s currently forecast to fall below the flood stage early on Saturday morning.

Evacuations are still in place for residents within the 100-year flood plain in Mount Vernon and for the city of Burlington, though Burlington announced a partial lift around 10 a.m.

City officials said Friday morning that the Gages Slough is flooding into homes.

Anyone who lives or works west of the North to South railroad tracks in the city is being told they can return to home or work.

The river at both Mount Vernon and Concrete is forecast to return to near major flooding levels next week.

A flash flood watch remains in effect through Saturday morning for the lowlands of Western Skagit County, including Sedro-Woolley, Burlington, Anacortes and Mount Vernon.

Flood warnings have also been extended through early Sunday morning for the Skagit River near Mount Vernon and Concrete.
