NORTH CASCADES, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Wildfire activity has once again shut down part of the North Cascades Highway.

WSDOT closed Highway 20 between mileposts 148 at Granite Creek and MP 157 at Easy Pass as of 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 21.

The U.S. Forest Service issued an update on the Easy Fire that showed it has grown to 300 acres. The fire was sparked by dry lightning storms in the Methow Valley on Wednesday, July 17. It is burning in dense timber with no existing roads or other natural features that could limit its spread.

Fire crews are also tackling a lightning-sparked wildfire in rural Skagit County.

The U.S. Forest Service says that the Pincer Two Fire was first reported late Wednesday night.

As of Sunday, the fire has burned about ten acres.

The Pincer Two Fire has forced the closure of the Marble Creek Campground and part of the nearby Cascade River Road.

Farther south, the Miners Complex Fire is currently burning 500 acres in the Glacier Peak Wilderness, forcing the closure of the heavily traveled Pacific Crest Trail in that area.

The Miners Complex Fire, burning 21 miles east of Darrington, was also caused by lightning last Wednesday.
