Week 2 of the high school football season continues tonight with a full slate of games across Whatcom County.
Squalicum fell to Anacortes 49-0 in last night’s game at Civic Stadium. Anacortes quarterback and future Washington State Cougar Ryan Harrington threw four touchdowns and ran in another in the win.
Allan Fee and The Zone crew is live at Blaine High School tonight for the Borderites’ game against Meadowdale. The Friday Night Lights pregame show will preview that matchup and all the other ones across the county tonight, taking you up until the 7:00 kickoff on KPUG with Randy Farmer and Dan Kaemingk on the call.
Over on KBAI, Bellingham is hosting Sultan in a Northwest Conference showdown. That also kicks off at 7:00 with Jason Upton and Rick Todd on the call at Civic Stadium.
Elsewhere across the county tonight…
Nooksack Valley is unveiling their new turf field ahead of their matchup with Okanogan.
Sehome is facing a tough road test against reigning 2A state champion Archbishop Murphy.
Lynden is on the road against Lakewood.
And Mount Baker is at North Kitsap, with all those games kicking off at 7.
Starting at 8, Ferndale is on the road against Edmonds-Woodway.

Lynden Christian is traveling up north to face Vancouver College at 1:30.
And Meridian is on the road against Cascade Christian 7.
NFL News
The Seahawks divisional rivals battled it out in the NFL’s first-ever Australia game last night.
The 49ers beat the Rams 27-7 in front of over 100,000 fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Mike Evans, Demarcus Robinson and Deebo Samuel all caught touchdown passes from Brock Purdy.
Reigning Defensive Player of the Year Miles Garrett had a quiet debut for the Rams, recording no tackles, sacks or pressures.
Week 1 of the NFL season continues on Sunday with 13 games, including a Sunday night showdown between the Cowboys and Giants.
Huskies/Cougs News
We’ve got plenty more football coming up tomorrow.
The Huskies are hosting Utah State in their second game of the season. UW is coming off a 14-point win over the Cougs in the Apple Cup that didn’t quite sway voters, who dropped the Huskies two spots in the AP poll to No. 19 in the country.
They’ll look to improve to 2-0 tomorrow against an Aggies team that’s coming off a loss to Idaho State.
Coverage begins at 10:30 am and kickoff is at 12:30 on KPUG.
Meanwhile, the Cougs are on the road against Kansas State for an early 9 am game tomorrow.
And the college football world will be watching what happens in Austin, TX tomorrow, as the fourth-nationally ranked Longhorns host the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes at 4:30.
Mariners News
The Mariners are kicking off their final road trip of the season tonight.
They’re in west Sacramento for the first of three games against the Athletics. Every game matters for the M’s, who trail the division-leading Astros by six games with just 15 left to go.
Seattle’s coming off a series win over Texas thanks to Julio Rodriguez’s go-ahead home run in yesterday’s victory.
They now face an A’s team that’s in the midst of one of their best stretches of an otherwise poor season, having won six of their last eight. Three of those wins came against the Mariners in Seattle last week, as the M’s look to avenge that brutal series loss.
Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KGMI with George Kirby on the mound.
WWU Vikings News
It’s a big weekend for Western athletics.
The Vikings’ volleyball team is into GNAC play and facing a tough test against 20th nationally-ranked Central Washington. That takes place at 7:00 tomorrow night at Carver Gym.
The Viks opened conference play last night with a tight, five-set win over Northwest Nazarene.
Meanwhile, their men’s soccer team is looking to rebound on the road against Regis on Sunday. The 14th national-ranked Viks suffered their first loss of the season yesterday against Westminster to drop to 4-1.
And Western’s women’s soccer team is hosting No. 12 Colorado School of Mines at 11 am on Sunday.
