BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bellingham has decided on the future of its biggest recreation hub.

The city announced that it’s moving forward with plans to relocate Carl Cozier Elementary School within the Civic Athletic Complex. The new school will be located at the northeast end of the complex at the corner of Fraser Street and Puget Street.

The existing building will be repurposed as a “swing space” for students from Carl Cozier, Roosevelt and Columbia as each of their schools are being rebuilt over the next few years.

Future plans for Civic also include upgraded athletic fields and an expanded indoor community recreation center.

The decision is based on feedback the city received at an open house in November where it presented four site plan options and called this one the “clear favorite.”

The city says it will come out with a full Master Plan for the complex in early 2025 before getting more feedback at another public meeting.
