BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A former Western Washington University police officer could face a state-level investigation over an on-campus incident.

A spokesperson for the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission confirmed to My Bellingham Now that a formal investigation has been recommended against Robert Anderson.

Anderson was fired by the university last year after he assaulted a suspect while they were in handcuffs.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that the suspect, who wasn’t a student, had been accused of breaking into a car on WWU’s campus.

The Whatcom County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the case and chose to pursue assault charges against Anderson.

State officials say that he hasn’t held a job in law enforcement since December, but his credentials are current and remain valid.
