BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A former nursing assistant at PeaceHealth is facing disciplinary action after being accused of sharing sexually explicit images of children.

The Washington State Department of Health charged 30-year-old Rachel Openshaw-Tapia with unprofessional conduct in October 2025. She was working as a registered nursing assistant at PeaceHealth St. Joseph’s Medical Center during the time of the allegations.

According to the statement of charges, Openshaw-Tapia told police that she had shared child pornography with an acquaintance. Investigators later found that she had also recorded protected patient information on her personal phone.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Openshaw-Tapia on Jan. 9, 2025. She remains at the Whatcom County Jail ahead of her jury trial set for March 9.
