WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Flood levels are beginning to recede in Whatcom County.

The Nooksack River at Ferndale remains at the moderate flood stage as of Friday morning and is forecast to fall below flood stage just after midnight.

Flood warnings have still been extended for the Nooksack River at Ferndale through just after 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Nooksack River at North Cedarville has fallen below action stage as Main Street has reopened in Everson.

It reached a record height early on Thursday morning.

Sumas Mayor Bruce Bosch says access to the city is still impossible as flooding is still coming over the bridge through the middle part of town.

He says it will likely take the better part of today for levels to drop enough for residents to return to their homes.

Evacuation orders remain in effect for Ferndale and Sumas.

The heavy rain has already caused several landslides in the western Cascades and forecasters warn that more are possible.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deb Slater says there’s been no injuries or deaths associated with the flood as of yesterday (Fri) evening.
