WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – One person in Whatcom County has gotten sick following a multistate cucumber recall.

Whatcom County Health and Community Services (WCHCS) issued an alert to residents on Dec. 2 over the Salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers distributed by SunFed Produce, LLC.

The recall includes cucumbers labeled with “SunFed Mexico” or packed in generic white boxes or black plastic crates with stickers showing “Agrotato, S.A. de C.V.”

The recall was issued on Nov. 27 and has since been linked to 68 illnesses across 19 states, including five confirmed cases in Washington and one in Whatcom County. So far, no hospitalizations have been reported in Washington.

WCHCS says people should wash surfaces that may have come into contact with the recalled cucumbers with hot, soapy water.

Contact your healthcare provider right away if you have any of these severe Salmonella symptoms:

  • Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102°F
  • Diarrhea for more than 3 days that is not improving
  • Unable to keep foods or liquids down
  • Infrequent urination
  • Dry mouth and throat
  • Feelings of dizziness when standing
