BELLINGHAM, WA – (MyBellinghamNow.com) A store focused on a fast-growing sport is the first of its kind in Whatcom County after opening their doors Friday, Feb. 9.

Far From Par Disc Golf is celebrating their grand opening this weekend in a storefront in Bellingham’s Columbia neighborhood after operating as a pop-up shop at events starting in the summer of 2022.

As the first Whatcom County disc golf, Co-founder and Media Director Daisey James says that Far From Par Golf fills a niche by supplying players in the local area with a brick-and-mortar store to purchase equipment for the county. According to Whatcom Disc Golf Club’s website, Whatcom County has six courses in the county alone and are open to the public. The Lake Padden course is pay to play with limited hours.

A 2023 growth report powered by UDisc says that over four courses were built per day nationally in 2022 and the report attributes the boom to the COVID-19 pandemic. James says that people found the sport because it allowed people to stay active while seeing friends outside. She also said the appeal of disc golf is it is an accessible sport because it’s cheap to get equipment.

“There’s a low barrier to get in,” James said. The store’s website says the owners are fulfilling their dream of creating a community space for disc golf enthusiasts of all ages, whether they be pros or beginners.
