King County health officials report fifth measles case in Washington state

SEATTLE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Health officials have reported another measles case in Washington state, the fifth so far this year.

The case was confirmed by Public Health – Seattle and King County.

An infant, who was likely exposed to measles while traveling abroad, traveled through Sea-Tac Airport on Tuesday, April 15 and visited Seattle Children’s Hospital multiple times on April 17 and 18.

Anyone who visited these locations should monitor for symptoms:

  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on April 15 from 4:50 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. (Gate S10, International Carousel 21and Gina Marie Hall)
  • Seattle Children’s Hospital on April 17 from 8:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Emergency department lobby)
  • Seattle Children’s Hospital on April 17 again from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. (Forest B level 1 lobby and Forest Pharmacy)
  • Seattle Children’s Hospital on April 18 from 12:05 p.m. to 2:25 p.m. (Ocean 6, 7, 8 lobbies)

Measles symptoms usually start seven to 21 days after exposure and causes symptoms that include fever, rash, coughing and red or watery eyes.

If you were in those areas at those times and develop symptoms, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately.
