CUSTER, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Ferndale man is in custody following a crash that injured three people, including a child.
Washington State Patrol (WSP) says that the driver was speeding on I-5 SB late Sunday night near the Custer rest area.
He struck the back of another car, sending it into the median while his car came to a rest on the right shoulder.
All three people in the second vehicle, including a two-year-old child, were injured and taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment.
WSP has shared new details about the hit-and-run incident.
Trooper Kelsey Harding said that the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Victor Sweet, rear-ended a vehicle heading south on I-5 late Sunday.
Sweet fled the scene on foot as the other vehicle veered into the median.
A K9 track and an aerial drone located Sweet hiding inside of an unplugged refrigerator on the side of the road.

He was taken into custody and remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $250,000 bail.
