WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Ferndale man was arrested after authorities say he attacked his neighbor with an axe.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deb Slater says deputies got called to a report of an assault with a weapon on Lattimore Road around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

The victim told deputies that their neighbor had used an axe to break down the door to their house and started swinging it at them. In their attempt to block the attack, the victim suffered a minor cut to their arm.

They claim the attacker then grabbed a knife from inside the home and held it in a threatening manner

Deputies found the suspect, identified as a 46-year-old man, later that night and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree assault and first-degree burglary.

He remains at the Whatcom County Jail without bail.
