WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A new resource is coming soon for residents affected by December’s flooding.

FEMA says it’s opening a disaster assistance center at Sumas Advent Christian Church starting this Wednesday, April 22.

Specialists will be on hand to help flood survivors apply for FEMA aid and other disaster assistance.

The center will be open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. until the June 10 application deadline.

FEMA aid opened earlier this month and can help pay for temporary housing, displacement, home repair costs, personal property loss and more.

Even people who have applied with the state need to also apply with FEMA to receive help.

It comes as housing inspectors are beginning to visit homes around the region for those who applied for FEMA aid.
