FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The father of a young girl who died of an overdose in Ferndale last year has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

34-year-old Michael Doane is the second person to enter a guilty plea following the death of his 5-year-old daughter on March 8, 2023.

The girl was found at her home foaming from her mouth and toxicology results determined she had a significant level of fentanyl in her system.

Investigators later found fentanyl, methamphetamine and methadone in the home in areas that were easily accessible to children.

The girl’s mother, Melissa Welch, pled guilty to manslaughter earlier this month.

Doane’s sentencing is now scheduled for this Monday (July 29) and Welch is set to be sentenced on Aug. 15.

Welch’s boyfriend Cody Craig, who was the third person who was at the house when the girl died, has a plea and sentencing set for Aug. 1.
