WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A woman was arrested after her former boss claims she stole thousands of dollars from a Whatcom County business.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deb Slater says the owner of an unidentified business reported the alleged theft last month. The owner says they noticed that a 37-year-old female employee had taken an unauthorized draw in January.

According to Slater, the woman told the owner that she would pay the money back but later stated that it was owed to her.

An investigation found that over $28,000 in checks marked as “draw” had been deposited into the woman’s bank account last year. Deputies asked the woman about the draws on Tuesday, April 1 and she wasn’t able to explain how they appeared in her account.

She was then taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree theft ahead of her arraignment scheduled for next Friday, April 11.
