WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Several projects in Whatcom County are benefitting from a recent spending package passed by Congress.

U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen says the bills include more than $10 million in support for local jobs and infrastructure around Northwest Washington.

“This legislative package creates jobs, builds community centers and strengthens infrastructure in Northwest Washington,” said Rep. Larsen. “Each investment of federal dollars here at home will serve our communities for decades to come. I will keep working closely with local leaders to make sure federal spending benefits the communities I represent.”

Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services of Whatcom County, or DVSAS, secured the most funding of any local project with more than $1.5 million

The money will help preserve and renovate the Douglas Building so it can serve more survivors who use the organization’s services.

Another $1 million will go towards a project in Lynden to relocate Pepin Creek.

Lynden Mayor Scott Korthuis says the move will help prepare the area for residential development and also prevent future floods during winter storms.

And the Bellingham Central Library is receiving $850,000 for its renovation project, with construction expected to begin in late 2026 or early 2027.

Farther south, Anacortes is getting $250,000 to help build its community event center for large-scale tourist-oriented and non-profit events.
