BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bellingham residents are invited to give their input on the cleanup of a waterfront site in Fairhaven.

According to Ecology, the shipyard has roughly 10 acres of contaminated soil, groundwater and marine sediment from past shipbuilding operations.

RE Sources is hosting an on-site walking tour from noon to 1:30 pm on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

Staff from Ecology and the Port will be on-hand to offer information and answer any questions. Public comment on the cleanup effort is being taken from Feb. 10 through March 12.

The cleanup is expected to begin later this year and will take roughly three years for the entire site.
