The Mariners are looking to win their fourth straight tonight when they face the Reds in Game 2 at T-Mobile Park.

The M’s are coming off an 8-0 steamrolling of Cincy in last night’s series opener. Former M’s third baseman Eugenio Suarez got a standing ovation after the team played a tribute video on the jumbotron.

Neither team scored until the fifth inning, when Julio Rodriguez scored Victor Robles on an infield single. Julio was pulled from the game minutes later after an errant throw hit him in his upper leg, though the team said his exit was simply a “precautionary measure.”

Seattle tacked on two more runs in the seventh before Cal Raleigh broke the game open with a grand slam to cap off a six-run inning. He drove in his fifth run of the game the next inning.

The Mariners’ pitching also dominated, as George Kirby tossed six scoreless innings to highlight a combined three-hitter between him and the bullpen. Seattle’s now back above .500 and owns a half-game lead over Texas for the division lead.

Luis Castillo is on the mound tonight against one of the game’s rising stars in Cincinnati’s Chase Burns. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

Bells News

The Bells are also eyeing their fourth straight win tonight in Game 2 against the Kelowna Falcons.

Bellingham rolled to an 11-4 win yesterday behind a 6-run third inning.

Meridian alum Bryce Johnson picked up three hits and shortstop Tyler Peshke added three more with four RBI and three runs scored. Seddrick Henderson tossed four and a third innings of one-run ball as the Bells pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts.

They’ll look to secure the series tonight at Joe Martin Field. First pitch is at 6:35 and tickets are half-off at the ballpark.

Seahawks News

Seahawks fans only have to wait a few more weeks before they can get behind the scenes with the defending Super Bowl champs.

HBO announced that “Hard Knocks” will debut on Tuesday, Aug. 4, in a trailer released today.

The documentary series will have five, hour-long episodes, each debuting at 9 pm on Tuesdays on HBO and streaming on HBO Max. It will follow the Seahawks through training camp and three preseason games in the first time in over 20 years that Hard Knocks is following the defending Super Bowl champions.

The final episode falls on Sept. 1, roughly a week before the Seahawks open the NFL season.

 

Meanwhile, a former Seahawks defender just cashed in.

ESPN reports the Miami Dolphins have agreed to a three-year, $51 million extension with linebacker Jordyn Brooks.

Brooks is coming off a career season where he led the NFL in combined tackles and solo tackles while earning First-Team All-Pro honors. He’s now the sixth-highest-paid inside linebacker in the league.

Seattle drafted Brooks 27th overall in 2020 and he went on to play four seasons with them before signing with Miami as a free agent in 2024.

Storm News

The Storm lost another tight one last night.

They fell to the Minnesota Lynx 105-102 for their fifth straight loss.

It was a duel between two of the WNBA’s top rookie guards in Seattle’s Flau’jae Johnson and Minnesota’s Olivia Miles. Miles exploded for 32 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists, while Johnson led the Storm with 26 points and connected on a career-high five 3-pointers.

Johnson had a chance to send the game to overtime with a three at the buzzer, but it bounced off the front rim.

The Storm could avenge their loss tomorrow when they host the Lynx once again in their final game before the All-Star break.

Meanwhile, Seattle’s own Natisha Hiedeman was just selected as a participant in the 3-point contest on Friday.

You’ve probably seen and heard the ads for one of those new online “prediction markets.”  Now, some of those ads appear to show one company isn’t playing by “house rules” in Washington.

State Attorney General Nick Brown announced today that the state has won a preliminary injunction against Kalshi.

On Monday, a King County Superior Court Judge ruled the company likely violated both the Washington Gambling Act and the Consumer Protection Act.  Brown claims Kalshi is an online platform that allows users to bet on sports and pretty much everything else.

Kalshi calls their service a “prediction market,” but they’ve produced ads that appear to use texts from customers bragging about skirting Washington’s online gambling laws. 

The court will issue a final order barring Kalshi from violating state law on August 5.

In 2006, the state Legislature amended the 1973 Gambling Act to make it clear that internet gambling is prohibited in Washington.
