WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A burn ban in the North Cascades and in Whatcom County are being lifted this week.

Parks officials lifted their burn ban within North Cascades National Park on Monday, Sept. 29. That means campfires are allowed in designated areas at all campsites within the complex.

Officials are still warning campers to keep fires small and to keep an eye on the flames to avoid causing wildfires.

The Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office says the county-wide burn ban will be completely lifted at midnight on Saturday, Oct. 4.

The office cited improved weather conditions and a reduced fire risk in making the decision.

Starting Saturday, residents in parts of unincorporated Whatcom County will be able to conduct open burning of yard debris, brush piles, campfires and more.

A burn permit is still required for any fires larger than four feet by four feet.

Residents who live within the Point Roberts, Lummi Island or Sandy Point fire districts should check with their respective department for outdoor burning restrictions.
