RUBY MOUNTAIN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Another wildfire has been sparked near the North Cascades Highway.

The National Interagency Fire Center reports the Ruby Fire broke out near Ruby Mountain on the morning of Friday, Aug. 9. So far, it has burned about 5 acres and is 0% contained.

WSDOT crews haven’t disclosed if the new fire will force additional closures of the North Cascades Highway.

The highway remains closed between mileposts 148 at Granite Creek and 157 at Easy Pass due to the Easy Fire’s proximity to the road.
