LUMMI ISLAND, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Lummi Island ferry riders will see pricier tickets starting in May.

Whatcom County Executive Satpal Sidhu signed an executive order on Thursday to set new fares for the Lummi Island ferry.

Pedestrian multiride tickets will increase from $113 for 25 round trips to $132 for 20 round trips. Vehicle multiride tickets will increase from $235 for 25 round trips to $244 for 20 round trips. Single vehicle tickets will increase by $1, while single pedestrian fare will remain the same. Fares for heavy vehicles will also increase by 30% and less discounts will be offered through the multiride punch cards.

The price hikes come as fare revenue has fallen in recent years due to a decline in riders, leading to “unsustainable” shortfalls in its projected budget.

Sidhu says that the new fare rates, along with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds allocated to the Ferry Fund, will lead to a farebox surplus of $100,000-$200,000 by the end of the year.

The increased fares take effect on May 1. View a full schedule of the fare changes here.
