WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A nonprofit is asking the community for urgent support in light of the historic flooding earlier this month.

Bloodworks Northwest says its blood supply is in critical need of donations, especially for Type O negative blood and platelets.

The organization estimates that the floods caused it to lose roughly 500 potential donations from canceled blood drives and the closure of a donor center.

It comes at an already strained time for donations, which usually decline during the holiday season.

Bloodworks has one donation center in Bellingham near Bellis Fair Mall and over 15 mobile drives scattered throughout Whatcom and Skagit counties.

You can find out how to donate and view a complete list of locations at the Bloodworks Northwest website.
