BLAINE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Blaine man is in custody after police say he threatened someone with a gun during a road rage incident.

The Blaine Police Department says officers responded to reports of a weapon brandishing on Mitchell Avenue just before 5 pm on Thursday, Feb. 26.

Sgt. Tim Richardson says the incident started when the suspect nearly caused an accident by failing to stop at a stop sign. A driver had to swerve to avoid the collision and followed the suspect before trying to take a picture of their license plate.

The driver then called 911 to report that the suspect had pointed a pistol at them and was now chasing them by car.

Police say the man followed the victim across the city at high speeds, driving recklessly and even cutting them off at one point. Officers eventually found the suspect vehicle at the intersection of 3rd and H streets and stopped it before finding a loaded pistol inside.

The 22-year-old driver was arrested and remains at the Whatcom County Jail without bail.
