BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – In the first two months of 2025, the Bellingham Police Department (BPD) has arrested more impaired drivers than there have been days in the new year.

BPD says officers have made 84 DUI arrests in the city since Jan. 1.

Those included a taxi driver who was found to be impaired early March 1.

The driver had a passenger on-board when they took a wrong turn off of Harris Street and ended up getting the taxi stuck on railroad tracks.

Both the driver and passenger were able to escape the car before it was hit by an oncoming train.

Another driver was found to be impaired at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4, when they accelerated into the back of another car at a stop light on North State Street.

The department is alerting drivers that they’ll be conducting DUI emphasis patrols around the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day holiday.
