BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Bellingham man is in custody after sexually assaulting someone known to him.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s spokesperson Deb Slater says deputies were called to address a case of physical assault at the Bellis Fair Mall on Nov. 25.

The victim told investigators that the suspect, identified as 53-year-old Maurice Phair, had also sexually assaulted them earlier that day.

Deputies learned that a no-contact order was in place between the victim and Phair, and he was taken into custody.

Phair remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $200,000 bail.
