BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Michigan-based warehouse giant is taking ownership of Bellingham Cold Storage (BCS).

The Whatcom County Treasurer’s Office says Lineage is in the process of buying BCS for $42 million.

Lineage says it’s the world’s largest chain of global temperature-controlled warehouses with over 485 facilities across several continents, including 40 in the Pacific Northwest.

The acquisition includes BCS’s Orchard/I-5 warehouse center and its Burlington Dry location.

“We are pleased to welcome Bellingham Cold Storage into the Lineage family. This strategic acquisition positions us to better serve customers in the Pacific Northwest and beyond,” said Brian Beattie, President of North America West at Lineage. “Bellingham has long been a cornerstone of the seafood and agriculture industries, and these facilities will allow us to offer additional supply chain solutions for our customers.”

Lineage already owns a public warehouse in Lynden and a fulfillment center in Ferndale.

The sale comes months after BCS signed a 50-year lease extension with the Port of Bellingham.

BCS has occupied space on the Bellingham Waterfront since 1946 and supports roughly 1,200 year-round jobs.
