BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – As electric vehicles become more prominent in Whatcom County, the City of Bellingham is changing with the times.

The city just announced they’re installing four new solar-powered EV chargers at popular recreation areas around town.

Drivers will now be able to charge their cars at Squalicum Creek Park, Civic Field, Lake Padden Park and Cordata Park.

The additions are part of Phase 2 of the city’s Electrification of Transportation project that looks to install 90 EV plugs at 26 different locations across Bellingham. Phase 2 will add 20 of those charging stations, including several in Fairhaven and downtown Bellingham, and is scheduled to wrap up in December.

The project is being funded by a $1.5 million grant from the state Department of Commerce, in addition to over $2.5 million from the city’s voter-approved Transportation Fund.

Find a list of the other locations around the city that will get charging stations this year on the city’s project page.
