BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Efforts to improve visibility and road conditions will be underway at a popular Bellingham intersection soon.

The city council voted unanimously to accept federal funding for the Samish Way and Maple Street Overlay and Lighting Project last week.

Bellingham Public Works spokesperson Connor Harron says that the project will focus on resurfacing Samish Way and upgrade corridor lighting. Bike facilities will also be added to the busy intersection adjacent to I-5.

Samish Way has been designated part of the National Highway System, making it eligible for funds focused on road maintenance.

Harron says the federal dollars free up local money for other road projects.

Design work on the project will begin soon, and construction is expected in fall of next year.
