ARLINGTON, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – One was injured in a fiery three-vehicle crash on I-5 Friday night that involved four people, including a Blaine woman.

Washington State Patrol (WSP) said that all three vehicles were heading north in the right lane of the interstate approaching 236th Street near Arlington around 10:45 p.m.

One of the cars – a Subaru WRX – struck a Jeep Commander and a Ram truck before coming to rest in the right lane, where the mess of cars was engulfed in flames. The Subaru’s driver, 18-year-old Juan Romero from Arlington, is charged with reckless driving.

WSP said that the only person injured in the accident was an Alaskan man driving the Ram truck and was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital; his condition is not serious or life-threatening.

Through the course of an investigation, WSP determined that high speed was the cause of the accident and drugs or alcohol were not involved.

That section of I-5 was closed as crews worked to clear the area of the vehicles that reignited once tow trucks pulled them apart. Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding said that traffic was backed up for four miles Friday night while they worked to clear the collision.
