BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – We could see some exceptionally high tides in Bellingham this weekend.

The State Department of Emergency Management says that King Tides are forecast from Saturday, Dec. 6 through Monday, Dec. 8 in Bellingham and other parts of the Whatcom County coastline.

King Tides occur during certain lunar phases and can cause issues such as coastal flooding.

In Bellingham, tides could rise as high as 9.9 feet during this month’s event. King tides are also forecast for many coastal areas in early January.

Further south, areas such as Shelton and Olympia could see king tides rise to nearly 17 feet.
