NEWHALEM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Whatcom County campground has been temporarily closed due to bear activity.

The North Cascades National Park Service said Goodell Creek Campground is closed until further notice.

The campground lies on the banks of the Skagit River just north of Marblemount.

The Parks Service said bears are out in lower elevations where natural food sources are readily available.

They are urging recreationalists to follow proper food storage rules and to avoid feeding bears unintentionally.
