BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Work is expected to begin soon at the pier near Little Squalicum Park, according to officials with the City of Bellingham Parks and Recreation.
The City recently acquired a portion of the pier, and intends to build a walkway up to a quarter-mile long over Bellingham Bay for public use.
New pedestrian handrails, low-level solar lighting and an accessible walking surface are among the installations to be made during the redevelopment.
The City says the walkway is anticipated to be similar to that of Taylor Dock in Fairhaven.
Design is underway and construction is expected to start in 2023 or 2024, pending permit approvals.
