Whatcom County goes 1-2 in state tournament games Wednesday

Whatcom County got a win and two losses on the first day of the high school basketball state tournament Wednesday in Yakima. The Meridian boys beat Bellevue Christian 61-49. The Trojans were led by the 17 points of Jackson Short. Meridian now plays Lynden Christian at 12:15pm Thursday in a winners bracket game on AM790 KGMI.

The Meridian girls got eliminated by Annie Wright 72-46. The Trojans have their season end with a record of 16-14 and in the late game Wednesday night, the Nooksack Valley girls got eliminated by Zillah 57-54. Maya Galley and Hallie Kamphouse had 12 points a piece for the Pioneers. Their season ends with a record of 20-8.

Coming up Thursday, the Lynden girls play first against Ellensburg at 10:30am on AM1170 KPUG in the winners bracket. The Lynden Christian boys battle Meridian at 12:15pm in another winners bracket match-up on AM790 KGMI. The Lynden boys take on Toppenish at 5:30pm on KPUG in a winners bracket battle of 22-2 teams. Thursday night at 9pm the Lynden Christian girls play Zillah in the winners bracket on KPUG. All games can also be heard on KPUG1170.com or KGMI.com.
