WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Strong dairy exports are benefiting Whatcom County dairy producers.

Lee Mielke of Dairy Radio Now says exports for cheese, butter, and powders are all strong.

Exports of milk powders are up 28% year-to date, with dry whey up 54%.

Mielke says this benefits local producers, like Darigold in Lynden.

He says the export strength is benefiting local dairy farmers, but there are still headwinds.

Mielke says cheese prices should be supported through the end of the year since the USDA announced the fourth round of the Farmers to Families Food Box program last week.

You can hear Mielke’s full comments in a recent Morning News Extra podcast.
