BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Whatcom Community College is offering free tuition to low-income applicants.

The Washington College Grant program is expanding their benefits to families in need, thanks to the Workforce Education Investment Act, a bill signed by Governor Inslee last month.

This replaces the State Need Grant and is funded through an increase in the Business & Occupation Tax.

WCC says for some students, the program could help completely cover school-related costs, including tuition, housing and transportation.

To qualify for the grant, students must be a Washington state resident demonstrating financial need, among several other qualifications.
