BURNABY, BC – Led by 22 points from redshirt junior guard Micah Winn and 21 points from junior forward Trevor Jasinsky, the No. 14 nationally-ranked Western Washington University men’s basketball team erased a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat Humboldt State 81-76 Saturday evening at the Simon Fraser Showdown.

WWU trailed 42-32 at the half, but stormed back to out-score the Lumberjacks 49-34 in the second half. The Vikings out-scored the Lumberjacks 29-12 in the first 10 minutes of the second half to erase the deficit and extended their lead to as many as 14 points at 71-57 with 6:44 remaining in the contest. HSU went on a 19-10 run to end the contest, but couldn’t overcome WWU’s large second-half scoring output.

The Vikings are now 3-1 after the perfect record on Burnaby Mountain, also beating Minnesota State Moorhead 80-76 to open the tournament.

A pair of reserves helped spark the Vikings to victory, with sophomore forward Braden Ahlemeyer contributing a career-high 7 points in 9 minutes of action. Redshirt junior Leif Anderson added 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting.

In four games this season, Jasinsky has scored 97 points for a 24.3 points per game average. He is also 6.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

The Vikings make their home debut this weekend on WECU Court in Carver Gym, hosting Capilano (Friday) and Langara College (Saturday), with both games tipping off at 2 pm.
