BURNABY, BC – Western Washington University junior forward Trevor Jasinsky scored a team-high 21 points, including a key 3-pointer with 34.7 seconds remaining in the game, to lead the Vikings to an 80-74 non-conference victory over Minnesota State Moorhead Friday evening in the first game of the SFU Showdown in West Gym.

Jasinsky (Camas, WA) was one of three Vikings in double-figure scoring, with senior point guard Tyler Payne (Long Beach, CA/Cerritos College) and sophomore forward Luke Lovelady (Tacoma, WA/Life Christian/Point Loma) both setting career-highs with 18 points. Payne was 8-for-12 from the field, also adding 6 rebounds, 3 assists and one steal. Lovelady was 6-for-8 from the floor and grabbed 8 rebounds.

Freshman forward Jalen Green (Renton, WA/Lindbergh) contributed 8 points and a team-high 9 rebounds off the bench, including a key 3-pointer with 4:54 remaining in the game that doubled WWU’s lead from 69-66 to 72-66.

Jasinsky continued his torrid start to the season (25.3 points/game), scoring 20-or-more points for the third consecutive game. The junior was 6-for-18 from the floor, but none bigger than his 3-pointer with under 40-seconds remaining in the game.

At the time of his long 3-pointer, the Vikings held a 3-point lead at 77-74. The Dragons pulled to within four points at 80-76 after a layup with 22-seconds remaining, but missed five shots on their final possession to secure the Vikings four-point victory.

WWU improved to 2-1 on the season, holding statistical advantages in rebounding (44-36) and field goal percentage (46.4%/32-for-69).

Minnesota State Moorhead (3-1) was led by a game-high 23 points from Travaun Coad and 21 points from Addison Park.

WWU returns to action Saturday night facing Humboldt State in the SFU Showdown at 5 pm in West Gym.
