WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Serious coastal flooding battered some waterfront properties at Birch Bay and Sandy Point today (Friday).
John Gargett with the Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management says it was a perfect storm of wind, waves and an extremely high tide.
He says the storm surge and 2 to 4 foot waves pushed the high tide to more than 13 feet.
High tide was at about 11 a.m. and water levels have been receding.
They don’t have an exact tally of the number of properties impacted but it’s likely more than a dozen.
The Sandy Point Fire Station was among properties that were flooded.
