BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Two men died in a crash on Lakeway Drive Sunday evening.

Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy says investigators determined the driver of a large SUV was headed west in the 2700 block in heavy rain and under the posted speed limit.

A white sedan suddenly came careening toward him and he didn’t have time to react.

The SUV slammed into the passenger side of the car and pinned it against a tree.

Medics declared both men in the car dead at the scene.

The SUV driver was not found to be impaired and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The men who died have not been identified pending notification of family members.
