SAN FRANCISCO – A trio of Washington Huskies earned All-Pac-12 honors on Monday as senior Matisse Thybulle and sophomore Jaylen Nowell were named to the All-Pac-12 First Team and senior Noah Dickerson earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention honors. Additionally, Thybulle was selected to the five-man Pac-12 All-Defensive team for the second-straight year. It is the fifth time in Pac-12 history Washington has had three selections to the All-Conference teams.
This is the first All-Pac-12 First Team selection and second-straight Pac-12 All-Defensive Team honor for Thybulle, who has started all 130 games of his career. With his 110 steals on the season, the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year semifinalist not only broke his own UW single-season mark set a year ago, but also tied the all-time Pac-12 single-season steals record held by Jason Kidd during the 1992-93 season. Thybulle also recorded 72 blocks, which ranked second in the Pac-12 and were the most by a guard. He is the only Division I player in the last 20 seasons to post 100 steals and 70 blocks in the same year. His 72 blocks also rank third all-time in UW single-season history. Thybulle averaged 9.5 points and 3.1 rebounds while posting 13 double-digit scoring efforts on the year.
Nowell, a finalist for the Naismith Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year award, also earned the first All-Pac-12 First Team selection of his career as the sophomore led UW averaging 16.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He dished out a team-high 97 assists (3.1 per game) and registered double-digit scoring in 28 of his 31 games played. Nowell, who was an honorable mention selection a year ago, reached 20 points nine times on the year and tied his career high of 32 points during non-conference action. Additionally, he set career-highs in rebounds (12) and assists (7) while upping his field goal shooting to 50.4 percent from 45.1 a year ago and his 3-point shooting to 42.7 from 35.1 last season. The sophomore has also recorded 38 steals, which ranks second on the team, and became the first player since 2011-12 (Isaiah Thomas) to earn three Pac-12 Player of the Week Awards.
Dickerson picked up his second-straight All-Conference award as he was selected to the honorable mention team. The senior saw action in all 31 games and recorded 22 double-figure scoring nights, five of which were of nights of 20 points or more. He tallied seven double-doubles including two over the last two regular-season games. Dickerson averaged 12.9 points while shooting 57.4 percent from the field and led the team in rebounding with 7.2 per night. Additionally, he recorded 33 steals and 18 blocks. The senior moved into the top 10 all-time in scoring at UW as he now has 1,564 points and also owns 933 career rebounds which is eighth all-time in Husky history making him the sixth UW player with a 1,500/900 combo.
The top-seeded Huskies open the 2019 Pac-12 Tournament against the winner of the 8/9 game featuring Arizona and USC. UW earned the 2019 Pac-12 Regular Season Title for the first time since the 2011-12 season and will play at Thursday, March 14 at 12 p.m. The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
