BELLINGHAM, Wash – A major renovation is transforming an old, rundown Bellingham hotel into modern lodging.

The 17-room Heliotrope Hotel is on Elm Street in the Columbia Neighborhood at the site of the former Lions Inn Motel.

Project manager Dylan Green says the hotel will have a 1950s and 1960s style and will offer amenities one can expect from more corporate hotels, as well as modern features.

The owners describe the Heliotrope as a hip, modern, Pacific Northwest oasis.

Green says it’s a combination hotel and bed and breakfast.

It scheduled to open on May 15.
