SEQUIM, Wash. – Some high school students in Sequim are hoping George Clooney will premier his latest film in their Olympic Peninsula town.

Clooney is directing a movie based on the book “The Boys in the Boat” about the University of Washington rowing team that won gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

KING 5 reports the team narrowly beat Italy and Germany in what is known as Hitler’s Olympics, and the main character in their story is Sequim’s hometown hero Joe Rantz.

His daughter says Joe was abandoned by his family as a boy, and rose to greatness from a difficult childhood.

Students at Sequim High School created a Tik Tok asking Clooney to premier the film in their town to benefit the Joe Rantz Rotary Youth House, which helps homeless kids in Sequim.
