BUFFALO, New York – Starbucks workers have voted to unionize Thursday, December 9th, at a store in Buffalo, New York.
The National Labor Relations Board said that workers voted 19-8 in favor of a union at one of three locations in Buffalo.
If the labor board certifies the vote, which could take about a week, it would be the first for any Starbucks-owned store in the U.S. to unionize.
Workers at another store rejected the union while disputed ballots have prevented a clear decision at the third store.
Starbucks has actively fought unionization at its stores for decades, saying its stores function best when it works directly with employees.
