BELLINGHAM, Wash. – PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center will be expanding thanks to a huge donation from a prolific Bellingham developer.

Peter H. Paulsen has announced the gift of $50 million to Bellingham’s hospital, which Chief Executive Charles Prosper says is the largest they’ve ever received.

“Mr. Paulsen really joins several other donors who to date have already contributed $50.5 million dollars,” said Paulsen. “So it’s a significant amount. We still have a ways to go.”

The donations will be used to build the Peter Paulsen Pavilion that will hold an expanded emergency department and care facilities for women, children and newborns.

Among Paulsen’s local developments is Hotel Bellwether on Bellingham’s waterfront.
