MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A new report evaluating Skagit County’s emergency dispatch center found shortcomings in several areas.
The report by public safety organization APCO International said the center falls short on staff, planning, and the ability to continue operating during disasters.
According to the Skagit Valley Herald, the report found the center would need about 50 full-time employees
The center is currently budgeted for 42 and actually has 35.
An APCO spokesperson told the Skagit Valley Herald the hope is with increased personnel, overtime will be reduced and morale improved, noting a staff survey found 83% were frustrated with the amount of mandatory overtime.
The Skagit County 911 Board plans to address the planning issue in January.
