Rui Hachimura named West Coast Conference Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — For the third time this season, Gonzaga’s Rui Hachimura was named the West Coast Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Hachimura scored 52 points in a pair of wins for the No. 4/4 Zags (21-2, 8-0 WCC). After scoring 20 points in a 93-63 victory at BYU, he nearly scored a new career-high with 32 points versus San Diego. The junior was 19-of-28 from the field (67.9 percent) for the week, going 11-of-15 against USD. He grabbed nine rebounds at BYU and seven against San Diego. The Toyama, Japan native blocked three shots and made two steals during the wins also.

Hachimura is third in the conference averaging 20.4 points per game. He is sixth in the league shooting 60.6 percent from the field and eighth grabbing 6.3 rebounds per game. Hachimura earned the conference’s first weekly honor of the season on Nov. 12, and again on Nov. 26.

The Bulldogs extended its NCAA record conference road winning streak to 28 games in a 93-63 win at BYU. The Zags won their 12th straight in an 85-69 decision against San Diego.

Gonzaga hosts San Francisco Thursday and Saint Mary’s Saturday.
