Prostitution busts made near naval base

BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) — Several women were arrested in connection with raids on four “illegal” massage parlors around Bremerton.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office says the parlors were fronts for human trafficking operations and surveillance showed a significant U.S. Navy connection.

The Sheriff’s Office served warrants Thursday on the businesses in Bremerton, Silverdale, and Poulsbo, where they rescued some of the human trafficking victims and arrested four women on suspicion of prostitution and promoting prostitution.

Six massage parlors and spas in Bellingham were searched earlier this month after being suspected of prostitution.

Puget Sound-area naval operations are no stranger to controversy.

Last fall, Naval Base Kitsap found itself under scrutiny when four submariners were charged with filmed sex crimes against an underage girl.

Up in Oak Harbor, the Navy admitted embarrassment but administered no major discipline after concluding the investigation into the infamous “sky penis.”
